Argentina, Perito Moreno Glacier

Our second day in El Calafate was spent exploring the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier. Photos do not translate the enormity of this sheet of ice, with an average of seventy metres in height and three kilometres wide it is hard to grasp the magnitude of this glacier. It is one of the only glaciers not receding and belongs to the Southern Patagonia Icefield, apparently the biggest reserve of fresh water in the world.

Not to sure about this!

Ice Trek

A deep crack in the wall of the glacier. This slit in the ice was over four metres high. It was absolutely mesmerising to look through.

This table was positioned on the ice to serve us a stiff whiskey near the end of the tour. We are not whiskey fans at all but in the bitter cold it went down like a treat, defrosting our bodies within seconds and giving me a little extra courage for the way back down.
