Peru, Machu Picchu

The moment we had been waiting for, the grand arrival to Machu Picchu. We are a little bit ashamed to say that no major trekking took place as we opted for the bus, which did involve getting up at 4.00am in order to start queuing for over an hour. You can't imagine how many tourists there were considering this is the low season. To make up for our lack of trekking we decided to climb Wayna Picchu, the mountain you see when you are at the top of Machu Picchu. However, only the first 400 people to enter Machu Picchu can do it, hence the early rise. We were one of the first people to enter and it was spectacular to see the place so empty but this soon changed with the continuous arrival of tourist buses. The weather was fantastic in the morning but it started to cloud over and rain as we were making our way down Wayna Picchu. By the time we entered the train station at the bottom, a huge storm took over and it poured non stop, we really felt sorry for all those tourists who were just beginning their tour to Machu Picchu.

It was hilarious, Bruno was trying to get a great shot of the llamas until the two of them stretched out their necks, standing as tall as could be, spat right at him in unison with their thick saliva. Unfortunately there is no photographic evidence of this.

Starting the climb, first we had to go down...

...then up and up until you almost die.

Almost there, not long to go.
