Peru, Sacred Valley

After relaxing in Cusco a few days, allowing ourselves to acclimatize, we packed our bags and headed for Aguas Calientes the starting point for Machu Picchu. Along the way we stopped to visit several towns in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, passing through some spectacular scenery along the way.

She was drawing on the ground with her chalk until we approached, she then sat up straight as if to pose but never smiled.

Oh the pain of not being able to buy anything. We have visited so many markets full of gorgeous alpaca scarves, mats and tapestries. It was pure torture not to be able to buy and pack them in our rucksacks. We wish we could ship huge quantities home for everyone at Christmas, we really do but ...well just don't be expecting anything.

The Sacred Valley

Pisac

Colourful little girl eating her lunch, which looked like a delicious plate of noodles.

Ollantaytambo

In the middle of nowhere.

A fascinating old lady at the door of her house which was some how converted into a stopping place for drinks in Ollantaytambo.

The pink lady on the run. They really do walk fast in Peru and they never get out of breath with their super extra capacity lungs.

Oh how many beautiful tapestries....

Just for the tourists. Cafe in Ollantaytambo.

End of the Inca Valley tour. From Ollantaytambo we caught the train to Aguas Calientes, next stop Machu Picchu.

Plastic Fantastic. The whole street leading up to the train station was full of those mad screaming women trying to sell you things before your journey. It just shows you how many tourists pass by here.

Bruno devouring a huge delicious corn of the cob.
